Windows security features
Temporarily disable Defender protections and third-party antivirus.
If security software is interfering, you can pause it temporarily while you get set up. Turn protections back on once you're done.
Disable real-time protection
- Open Settings
- Go to Privacy & Security → Windows Security
- Open Virus & Threat Protection
- Select Manage Settings
- Disable Real-Time Protection
Disable Tamper Protection
If Real-Time Protection is greyed out, open Windows Security → Virus & Threat Protection → Manage Settings and disable Tamper Protection first.
Third-party antivirus
Most antivirus apps offer a temporary pause or disable option — find the icon in your system tray and choose it. Common examples include Norton, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, ESET, and Avast.
